24th Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce Industry and Agriculture
it was attended by a good number of senior officials of the State including the Minister of Custom and Trade, Mayor of Metropolitan City of Konya, Prominent Businessmen and Members of the Board of Directors of Konya Chamber. The occasion was marked with the speeches in the following manner:
H.E. Selçuk Öztürk, President of Konya Chamber of Commerce, delivered a speech in which we welcomed the guests. He highlighted the huge investment commercial industrial potentials of the City of Konya. Furthermore, he underlined its status as a significant industrial and commercial hub of Turkey, as well as the great role played by Konya in the economic development of Turkey. He underscored the major sectors influenced by Konya such as agriculture, livestock and the new trend which would make it in the near future, as a center for clean energy and would further progress in its development to become a significant economic center at the level of the entire Islamic World.
H.E. M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, President of TOBB and Vice President of the ICCIA, delivered his speech, in which he welcomed the delegates in the historic city of Konya, the Capital of Seljuk Civilization and the home city of the great spiritual leader and famous poet Jalaluddin Rumi. He highlighted the economic, geographical, historical, cultural and touristic significance of the city. Moreover, he shed light on its selection as the capital of Islamic tourism for the current year 2016. The factor that led him to host this significant meeting in Konya. He underscored the significant role of private sector in the socio economic development of the Islamic countries and the necessity for the cooperation and exchange of experiences and expertize, so as to enable the private sector play its due role in the realization of economic integration of the Islamic Ummah.
Mr. Gholamhossein Darzi, Director of Economic Affairs of the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) delivered the message of H.E. Dr. Iyad Amin Al-Madani, Secretary General of OIC, in which he conveyed his best wishes and compliments to the people and the Government of Turkey and to all the participants of the meetings. He emphasized once again on the support of OIC to the activities of the ICCIA that are related to the development of trade and enhancement of capabilities of the private sector. Moreover, he underlined the significant role of ICCIA in the domain of Halal and appreciated its participation in the meeting of the stakeholders of Halal, which was held by OIC in its Headquarters in Jeddah.
H.E. Tahir Akyürek, Mayor of Metropolitian City of Konya, delivered a speech, welcoming all the delegates for their visit to Konya to participate in the ICCIA meeting. He expressed his pleasure for hosting the ICCIA event in Konya and highlighted the historical importance that of the city in the past, which it still enjoys in the present and shall continue to grow and increase in the future by the virtue of the great efforts of all the stakeholders.
H.E. Shaikh Saleh Abdullah Kamel, President of Islamic Chamber, delivered a speech, in which he thanked TOBB and its President Mr. M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu and Konya Chamber for hosting the meeting and for the warm reception and hospitality extended for the ICCIA delegates. He emphasized on the necessity of unity and cooperation among Islamic countries, which need to be translated into feasible projects and tangible results that serve the mutual interests and achieve the common objectives. He congratulated the government of Konya for the selection of the city as capital for Islamic tourism in the year 2016. He further applauded the successful experiences of Konya Chamber and the excellent projects implemented, such as industrial zones and corporations. He highly valued the Commodity Exchange Borsas in Turkey and called upon the Member Institutions of the ICCIA to collaborate with the Union of Turkish Chambers, so as to benefit from its expertise and strive to transfer and replicate these dynamic initiatives to their respective countries.
H.E. Bülent Tüfenkçi, Customs and Trade Minister of the Republic of Turkey, delivered his speech, in which he emphasized the significant role undertaken by his country as a major trade partner to the Islamic countries. He stated with figures the economic growth achieved by outstanding ratios. He highlighted the huge variation in the economic level of the Islamic countries and the fact that most of the Islamic States and peoples suffer poverty and called for further cooperation and solidarity amongst these countries and to increase the level of commercial and industrial exchanges. He sighted figures covering the volume of commercial exchanges between Turkey the Islamic countries and expressed his country’s preparedness to grant further privileges, so as to encourage its exchange between the Turkey and the rest of the Islamic countries.
